Murray Energy Corporation along with its Subsidiary Companies, is proud to provide low cost, reliable, and high quality coal supplies to our electric utility customers, with the safety of our employees as our top priority.

Over the past three decades, Murray Energy has positioned itself as one of the most reliable and efficient coal producers in the world.  Our focus on safety, efficiency, and strategy has positioned Murray Energy to survive the very difficult coal marketplace.

Indeed, our industry has been embattled from excessive federal government regulations from the Obama Administration and by the increased use of natural gas for the generation of electricity.  In my sixty-three years of coal mining experience, I have never before seen such destruction of an industry, with reliable, low cost electric power also being eliminated.  Since 2008, forty percent of the coal-fired power plants, or 121,000 megawatts of electricity, have been closed.

Protecting and preserving the coal industry is a human issue to me, as I know the names of thousands of Americans whose jobs and family livelihoods have been destroyed by the federal government’s failed anti-coal policies and senseless regulations.  Many were our employees.

Americans must understand that natural gas-fired power generation is not reliable, as the fuel comes to the plant in a finite pipe.  Further, sunshine and wind also cannot be stored at a power plant.  Coal-fired electricity costs 4 cents/kilowatt hour. Natural gas generation has cost 15 cents/kilowatt hour over the last ten years.  Electricity from a windmill or solar panel costs 26 cents/kilowatt hour.  Since natural gas, wind, and solar generation are intermittent and not reliable, at least thirty percent of our electricity must come from coal.  Otherwise, the electric power grids will become very unreliable and our citizens will freeze in the dark.

Reliable, low cost electricity, a staple of our lives, is threatened.  The wells that supply the current glut of low cost natural gas will only last ten years before they are depleted.  Most of these wells are already three to five years old.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency during the Obama Administration released a study that showed that, if all coal-fired power plants in the United States were closed, it would have an “immeasurable” effect on global temperatures.  They quantified “immeasurable” as only 0.02 of one degree Fahrenheit.

We have an energy poverty problem in America and the world, not a so-called climate change problem.  Retired couples and families on fixed incomes need not pay out thirty percent of their income or in some states, pay over three times more for their electricity because of government intervention and so-called “climate change” alarmism.

Murray Energy Corporation is designed to withstand these challenges, as we consistently focus on safety, efficiency, strategy, and low cost coal and transportation for our electricity generating customers. We will continue to fight for reliable, low cost electricity in our Country and for our employees’ jobs and lives.

We thank you for your interest in Murray Energy Corporation.
